Drone Surveying and ROV (underwater surveys)

Drone Surveying and ROV (underwater surveys) – Dargavel are delighted to announce a new partnership to provide a new era in drone inspection services.

The main focus is to be the leading provider in remote-controlled drone inspection services. Known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) this innovative approach to inspections and covers, air, land and sea.

Human divers can only submerge to certain depths, and the skill and danger involved makes Deepwater diving unrealistic our ROV services is now changing the way we survey subsea. Our compact remotely operated underwater vehicles, light and heavy work class ROV’s and our portable rugged ultrasonic testing devices provide a rapid inspection of a variety of materials.

We currently provide technical consulting and inspection services for a wide range of commercial & industrial clientele. Industries include:

  • bridges
  • hydroelectric
  • marine vessels
  • marine structures
  • heavy & light industrial structures
  • infrastructure
  • pulp & paper
  • petrochemical, water treatment
  • waste water
  • new construction projects

Our team consists of certified engineers and inspectors, from a variety of technical disciplines, including corrosion, mechanical engineering, coating inspection, chemistry, metallurgy and materials science.

Our professional inspection services are conducted according to the worldwide acknowledged international quality control standards. The inspection will be performed according to the Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) standard.

Benefits of our Drone Surveying and ROV services include:

  • Our technology enables our engineers to detect the slightest indication of corrosion, cracks or imperfections before problems escalate into failures
  • New technologies that minimize revenue loss and protect both personnel and the environment are transforming onshore & offshore inspection practice
  • We carry out Aerial and Industrial Inspections using UAV’s from Transmissions Lines to wind turbines and assistance in Environmental planning and Corridor mapping
  • We are qualified to carry out Inspections on pressure equipment with fully Qualified Plant Inspectors (ASME). Non-Destructive testing – Corrosion monitoring
  • We are a multi-disciplined Asset Integrity company and whatever your requirements are we are here to help you
  • We have a wealth of experienced Environmental Engineers to Qualified UAV & ROV Pilots, Inspection Engineers, Plant Engineers and Civil Engineers.
  • Our Engineers are fully qualified surveyors, plant Inspectors, non-destructive inspection Engineers and Environmental Scientists
  • We will be able to help your organisation to achieve its goals and projects in a safe, efficient manner, with cost-effective solutions

Modern ROV systems can be categorized by size, depth capability, onboard horsepower, and whether they are all-electric or electro-hydraulic. In general, ROV can be grouped as follows:

Micro – These ROV are used as an alternative to a diver, specifically in places where a diver might not be able to physically enter such as a sewer, pipeline or small cavity or deep land water storage tanks, due to their size and weight. One person may be able to transport the complete ROV system out with them on a small boat, deploy it and complete the job without outside help.  Typically, Micro Class ROV weigh in around 15 kg.

Observation class – (OCROV)—generally portable ROV that weigh less than (91 kg) used in areas such as Offshore Platform Inspections and can be fitted with a small mechanical manipulator or a small 3 fingered grabber. The eyeball ROV, will keep divers out of hazardous situations or conditions. This allows the small vehicles to enter underwater locations too confining or dangerous for a diver, for example; nuclear power plant inspections, dam inspections, archaeology, fish assessment, ship husbandry and more recently homeland security have become routine for OCROVs.

Light Work class – These ROV have the same manipulators as heavy work class ROV. Chassis may be made from polymers such as polyethylene rather than the conventional stainless steel or aluminium alloys, which reduces weight and size considerably. These ROV can also accommodate various tooling deployment systems for functioning valves, grinders, hydraulic cutters etc. They can also be fitted with twin boom cameras for pipe inspections and airlifting or water jet pumps like the heavy work class. They typically have a maximum working depth to 2000 m.

Heavy Work class – typically less than 220 hp (propulsion) with an ability to carry at least two manipulators. Tooling systems for specific offshore BOP tasks They can also be fitted with twin boom cameras for pipe inspections, and airlifting or water jet pumps and many other forms of tooling, grinders, hydraulic cutters, etc. They have a working depth up to 3500m.

UAV – Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

We have recently acquired the two top drones the Dragonfly X4P and Falcon 8 for aerial inspection aerial filming and ground mapping technologies. Our drones are the most stable in air coupled with the most highly efficient cameras, videos and infrared cameras, recording and flying facilities in the market to date.

The Benefits of the Dragonfly X4-P and Falcon 8 include:

  • Cost cutting advances in the onshore and offshore industry
  • These UAV can record, and photograph previously places unable to reach
  • 36-megapixel high definition cameras
  • 12x optical zoom video camera
  • infra-red and 640 x 512-megapixel thermal imaging cameras
  • Good Speed levels, can fly even faster in GPS mode
  • Ease of use and controllability, includes specific flight modes
  • Reduced risk and cost
  • Plug-&-play solution including compass calibration and automatic settings adjustment
  • All cameras are modified and optimized for aerial applications
  • The camera can be exchanged with just a few quick actions. The system will identify and calibrate itself and be ready for operation

Range of useful applications include:

  • On & offshore inspection of oil and gas platforms
  • Inspection of infrastructure like bridges, roads, railways, power lines & equipment, ducts, subways, tunnels, level crossings, dams, reservoirs, retaining walls etc.
  • Inspection of wind farms & power stations
  • Inspection of solar parks & PV modules
  • Inspection of drilling rigs, pipelines & transmission network.
  • Asset & utility inspection
  • HD Live-Inspection & aerial filming for Commercials (product, image, tourism, events & music videos)
  • HD Landscape videography, wildlife & nature videography
  • Live inspection & documentation in case of fire, accident, damage & disaster
  • For detailed structure monitoring for civil engineering purposes the precision UAV Falcon 8 assists as a professional unmanned sensing flight platform

AcoustoCam i600

While effective for finding a variety of defects, standard ultrasonic systems are highly dependent on the skill of the operator. This is especially true for more advanced systems such as phased array scanners. The dependence on such skilled operators has resulted in a lack of trained technicians. This is the number ONE issue facing the industry today.

The AcoustoCam™ makes UT simple. It’s a portable, rugged ultrasonic testing device for rapid inspection of a variety of materials for internal defects. It’s specifically designed with ease of use and speed in mind.

AcoustoCam i600 can be widely used on a variety of materials, including; carbon fibre composites, aluminium, plastics and fibreglass, metals, multi-layer laminates and honeycomb core.

Same applications, better data – The device can be used anywhere ultrasonic devices are used today but provide better data. However, most of the applications for the device are in the oil & gas, aerospace, and subsea markets.

AcoustoCam i600 has revolutionised these industries:

  • AEROSPACE
  • PETROCHEMICAL
  • SUBSEA

Features of the AcoustoCam™ :

  • Faster, safer, less expensive, and easier to operate than today’s options
  • Minimal Operator Training
  • Operator Independence
  • Real time, C scan imaging
  • Speckle-free, X-ray like Image
  • Standard Video Output
  • Higher resolution, easier to interpret images
  • Quickly and easily evaluate the large surfaces for corrosion
  • Allows the user to scan curved pipelines with greater accuracy
